Weaving the Children’s Health Medical Network, Making a Bright Future for Children

April 10, 2019

Children are the treasures of their parents and the backbone of our country in the future. With the decline in Taiwan’s birth rate, how to strengthen the health welfare and medical care of children, so that children can grow up healthily, has become increasingly important. To help meet this need, on April 2, 2015, the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) established the Child Health Research Center (CHRC). Later the same year, NHRI began to undertake its “Child Health Research Center Project,” which was commissioned by the Medical Affairs Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. To promote our important achievements for child health since that time, a press conference will be held on April 2, 2019, on the ground floor of the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

The CHRC recently completed its “2030 Policy Recommendations for Child Health and Medical Care,” which was compiled with the expert advice of more than two hundred relevant professionals from government agencies, the health care sector, academia, and NGOs. Also, in response to the low birth rate and the desire to further reduce infant mortality, the CHRC has put forward numerous policy recommendations, such as on how to optimize the children’s healthcare network, improve emergency medical services and care for pregnant women, and reduce preventable deaths for newborns and children.

As part of its mission to improve the public’s knowledge of children’s medical and health needs, NHRI has launched its “Health Station for Children and Youths” website to provide educational articles on children’s health, professional clinical advice, and links to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s children’s services website. Furthermore, to help parents rapidly find medical care, the website has a function that tells site visitors the three medical care facilities with 24-hour emergency services that are closest to them.

The website will continue to be updated and expanded. The team of professionals behind the site work to ensure it quickly provides correct health information that meets the needs of both the public and medical care professionals. The website aims to be Taiwan’s most convenient resource for information about children’s health care.
